DISCOVER HOW YOUR BRAIN CAN CHANGE
The Mega Brain
The brain is probably the most complex organ that governs all bodily functions, thoughts, emotions and behaviour, making it the central hub of human experience. About 86 billion neurons communicate via electrical and chemical signals enabling learning and memorising.
Our brain is incredibly plastic and creative. Its neuroplasticity makes the brain ready to respond, adapt and change throughout our entire life.
Neurofeedback taps perfectly into this wonderful brain’s natural ability and makes use of brain plasticity to encourage it to self-adjust towards a normal brain activation pattern.
At Train a Brain by monitoring, mentoring and providing real-time feedback on individual’s brainwave activity, we help individuals learn to regulate their brain function.
Your brain can automatically learn and respond using feedback.
This process harnesses the brain’s communication and helps guide the individuals to a specific frequency range and helps them stay there.

WHAT IS NEUROFEEDBACK?
Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback that harnesses the power of brain’s neuroplasticity, using operant conditioning to train long-term changes in brain function. This plasticity is brain’s natural ability to change and adapt in response to new experience, learning and stimuli.
With EEG sensors placed on the scalp, neurofeedback provides real-time visual and audio feedback and by reinforcing a desired brainwave pattern and reducing undesirable ones, it helps improve states like focus, relaxation, emotional regulation and overall cognitive functions.
It is used to address conditions like ADHD, ADD, anxiety, sleep disorders as well as to enhance peak performance and many more.
IS IT SAFE?
Neurofeedback is safe. It is non-invasive, painless process, involves no medication, and uses real-time brain monitoring to promote natural self-regulation.
WHAT IS THE BEST ABOUT IT?
The best thing about neurofeedback is its ability to help the brain self-regulate and improve brain performance, mental and emotional well-being, all through non-invasive, personalised training that promotes long-lasting change without medication. It allows to make your brain stronger. With Neurofeedback technology we target the source of a symptom.
IS IT FOR ANYONE?
It is for anyone from young to old! For those having specific conditions in all age groups neurofeedback can help with managing day to day challenges. Even any healthy individual can use neurofeedback to optimise their brain function.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM NEUROFEEDBACK TRAINING?
While results vary by person, research and clinical practice commonly show benefits for the following groups.

History of Biofeedback
The beginning of biofeedback
The very earliest brain activity measurements done on animals are dated 1875 and were reported by a British scientist Richard Caton.
Further observations of, this time, human brain electrical activity was recorded by a psychiatrist, Hans Berger, and were published in 1929.
More intensive studies on brainwave activity had been conducted in late 1960’s by M. Barry Sterman who began observing the behaviour and brain wave rhythm activity on cats.
Thanks to professor Sterman for the first time biofeedback was used to train humans in the American NASA training centre where astronauts and pilots who, under high-stress conditions, were required to perform complex tasks.
Biofeedback Method
Professor Sterman continued his research on activity of certain brain waves and their impact on behaviour. Alongside professor Sterman’s studies, Dr. Joel Lubar started observing hyperactive patients and noticed that by training certain brain wave frequency his patients became calmer. Dr. Lubar has continued his studies over the brain electrical activity and the impact of brain training for years after.
Further Research
Further studies confirmed the effectiveness of the brain wave training in such cases as cognitive function disorders, fatigue, mood changes, irritability, improved concentration, stress reduction and better sleep.
DISCOVER HOW YOUR BRAIN CAN CHANGE
If you are struggling with your body and you feel weak, you go to the gym and follow a set of exercises. You have to practice regularly to see the results. At the beginning your body may feel tired and sore but in time it gets stronger. The same happens with your brain. You can exercise it like a muscle. The more you train it, the stronger it gets.
Frequently Asked Questions
Please remember to:
- Avoid drinking coffee or energy drinks for about 2 hours before the examination.
- Avoid eating heavy meals, but do not come hungry.
- Refrain from taking sedatives. NOTE: Any discontinuation of medication should always be consulted with your attending physician.
- On the day of the examination, wash your hair and avoid using hair gel, mousse, or conditioners, as they can interfere with obtaining high-quality EEG signals.
- Do not smoke or consume alcohol.
Neurofeedback training does not require special preparation. The key to effective Neurofeedback training is to bring the brain into a state of relaxation and concentration, which requires calmness. Therefore, avoid stimulating yourself before the session (do not drink coffee or energy drinks, and avoid being excessively full or hungry). Keep your cyber hygiene at a good level; being overstimulated with technology before the sessions is not recommended.
The minimum age for starting biofeedback therapy is 6 years old. There is no upper age limit for biofeedback training; the brain can, and should, be trained throughout life.
Yes. Every session is structured in the same way; however, we can adjust the protocols depending on the observed brain activity and the progress. The specifics of the training and the number of sessions will depend on the results of the assessment conducted during the first meeting. Only after analysing these results, we create a training program and determine the number of sessions required (not fewer than 20).
The first effects can be observed after 5-10 sessions, however a bit more obvious and more stable effects are normally observed after about 10-12 sessions, or approximately 5-6 weeks. This is the time needed for neurons to create new connections. The nature and the length of the issue being addressed also play a vital role. Results may be visible more quickly in individuals with attention deficit problems compared to patients recovering from accidents or those with autism. Any feeling or behaviour that is different than your norm, should be reported to your provider.
Therapy should be conducted at least twice a week ideally at the same times, with more frequent sessions being preferable. It is important to adhere to the therapy schedule, as longer breaks (especially during the early sessions) may disrupt the brain's adjustment process. Breaks should not exceed 14 days. A minimum of 20 sessions is recommended—interrupting therapy or not completing the minimum number of sessions may result in ineffective treatment outcomes.
Training effects following first few sessions are usually temporary. Those effects may hold for an hour, or few days then disappear. The effects of Neurofeedback build up in time. It is important to remember that neurofeedback is a highly personalized process, and it is recommended to commit to a schedule that will allow to attend the sessions consistently, ideally on the same day and time. With the commitment comes change which, if trained regularly, will accumulate and hold long-term.
In most cases yes, however everyone’s sensitivity to training varies, that means not everyone will have the same pace of reaction to the training. For the length of the training, it will be important to observe yourself and give the provider regular feedback. Also, everyone has a different challenge. Neurofeedback is not a magic wand and doesn’t reverse conditions, however, improvements in function can be observed. There are certain health conditions which exclude from Neurofeedback training. For the list of exclusions please see point 10.

Learning can take a while, and some people easily and quickly absorb new knowledge or a skill while others need more practice. Commitment and regular sessions are crucial for the positive outcome. Sometimes a different protocol might be required. You will need to communicate your observations to the provider, so the most suitable training is picked for you.
Research show that 80% of people can train and observe improvements. However, there are certain conditions that are not related to brain problems but still present similar symptoms. These problems may be related to thyroid, hormonal or poor gut health issues or sometimes to parasites.
Do not stop or make changes to your medication unless advised to do so by your medical doctor. Also, please remember that starting new medication at the same time as starting neurofeedback training doesn’t make sense as you will not be able to identify which therapy causes the results. Being on a stable dose or starting medication after you have been doing neurofeedback for some time is much better approach.
Neurofeedback is generally considered safe, and most people feel better after a session. There might be few side effects observed though. Clients may find their sleep disrupted, feel irritable, fatigued or have slight headache. These side effects, like soreness after the gym workout, are usually temporary and clear out in a day or two, and this is how the brain might react to a brain workout. For some clients it may take a little time to get used to the brain trainings.
Neurofeedback training is generally considered safe and well-tolerated. However, there are certain situation when it may not be appropriate:
- Severe Psychiatric Conditions – active psychosis or severe mental illness without stabilization
- Recent brain injury – individuals who have had a recent concussion or traumatic brain injury without medical clearance
- Epilepsy – those with uncontrolled epilepsy
- Uncontrolled Medical Conditions – severe or unstable medical conditions
- Medical interactions – when medical interactions or changes could affect the training process
- Severe Cognitive Impairments – Individuals with severe cognitive impairments might not benefit from training
*Always consult with your healthcare provider to determine if neurofeedback is suitable for your specific situation.
